The New Orleans Saints currently sit at 4-2 and are in a battle for the NFC South division lead. As always, the glaring weakness for New Orleans is in the secondary, specifically at safety. Malcolm Jenkins has been pedestrian at best after reuniting with the team that drafted him, although the biggest issue has been the play of Marcus Williams. The Saints need Earl Thomas now. Williams gets caught time and time again getting fooled by the quarterback’s eyes. Constantly out of position and just making terrible reads while the ball is in the air.
Why Hasn’t Earl Thomas Been Signed?
That is the big question floating around the league, why hasn’t Earl Thomas been picked up by a needy team? The only logical reason I can think of is due to his locker room issues. Thomas has the reputation of being a “cancer” in the locker room. We all remember his departure in Seattle after he broke his leg, he gave Pete Carrol the bird as he was being carted off. Fast forward to this past offseason, Thomas gets into a fight with a teammate and the Ravens just release him. It was an odd situation but they just let him walk.
Should The Saints Make a Play for Thomas?
Yes, the Saints need Earl Thomas now. We already have one Thomas who likes to fight, one more can’t hurt. In all seriousness, I think we need to address the secondary in some way. Marcus Williams is just bad, there’s no two ways about it. Earl Thomas on the field, is an All-Pro caliber safety who doesn’t get confused in simple coverages. The Saints have a very real chance of going to the Super Bowl, but we need to address the safety position. Who Dat?!
