On this day 14 years ago, the city of New Orleans was brought back to life. A city brought to its knees by Hurricane Katrina. On Sept. 25th, 2006, on Monday Night Football in the Super Dome, we witnessed the rebirth of New Orleans. This was one of those moments in time where you will never forget exactly where you were when it happened. This was our first game with new head coach Sean Payton, and new quarterback Drew Brees. After forcing a 3-and-out but missing out of a critical fumble recovery, Atlanta was set to punt. On a side note, how different would things have been if Scott Shanle recovered that fumble? Luckily he didn’t, because what happened next will always stand the test of time.
Thank You Steve Gleason
It has been 14 years since the rebirth of New Orleans, yet it feels like it happened yesterday. Steve Gleason will forever be immortalized in Saints history. They even put a statue of the man outside the Dome! Steve Gleason continues to defy the odds as he has been battling ALS for the last 10+ years. He has far outlived his original expectancy after being diagnosed with the disease. I am proud to own a Gleason jersey and to represent Team Gleason on a daily basis. Where were you on this day 14 years ago?
