What we saw from LSU last year was nothing short of incredible. I have been reminiscing a lot lately, and I will be forever grateful that I had the chance to experience it. A season capped off by the Tigers tying the record for players taken in an NFL Draft, leaves a few question marks for LSU that will dictate if they can repeat as champions.
LSU QB Myles Brennan
The most glaring question is, will Myles Brennan be able to have the success that Joe Burrow had? The answer is quite simply, no. Joe Burrow had an unprecedented season, one that we may never see again. We don’t need Myles to be superman, we just need him to be himself. I keep seeing people say “the offense will fall off without Joe Brady.” I personally don’t believe that for one second, it’s not like the guy was calling plays from the damn phone booth. When he walked out the door, it’s not like the passing schemes went with him. Many people don’t know that Myles Brennan finished second in the Elite 11 quarterback competition. Who did he finish behind? The newest Miami Dolphins quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa. It will help that he has Ja’Maar Chase, the best wide receiver in the nation catching the ball.
The Defensive Side Of The Ball
The Tigers lost a lot of quality defensive guys to the draft. Grant Delpit, Patrick Queen, K’lavon Chaisson, and Kristian Fulton being the most important. This leaves some more questions for the Tigers. If there is anything coach Orgeron can do, it’s recruit. LSU already has the best defensive player in the country in Derrick Stingley Jr. Coming in to line up on the opposite side of the field is Elias Ricks, the #1 ranked cornerback in the nation out of high school. We will have the best duo of corners in the nation, and with Marcel Brooks and JaCoby Stevens, our secondary as a whole will be stout.
Back To Back
I really like our chances to repeat as National Champions. I fully expect Myles Brennan to excel under center and we will have the two best players outside of the quarterback position. The Tigers are currently sitting at 16/1 odds to repeat. I will take those odds every day of the week straight to the bank.
