Jaw-dropping. That is the only phrase I can think of to describe the performance from Justin Gaethje last night. I have followed every fight of his UFC career, and what we saw last night was the perfect performance. A fan favorite due to his relentless pace and world-class striking, we saw a different Justin Gaethje last night. We saw a more calculated Gaethje, he wasn’t taking any unnecessary shots and putting himself in harms way. A massive uppercut from Tony Ferguson connected right before the end of the round and dropped Gaethje. This could have ended the fight if not for the bell, but from that moment on, it was domination from The Highlight.
What Happens Next?
First things first, I feel terrible for Tony Ferguson. This guy was on a 12 fight win streak in the toughest division in the sport. He was scheduled to fight Khabib for what feels like 20 times by now, each time getting canceled. Ferguson trained for months and months for a guy with sub-par striking and the best wrestling in the game. Next thing he knows, he’s thrown in the cage with a savage, an absolute killer. I was happy Gaethje won and even picked him to do so, but it’s hard to not feel bad for Tony. He is the toughest son of a bitch I’ve ever seen fight and I hope to see him get a shot at the belt. So what’s next? Justin Gaethje will take on Khabib Nurmagomedov and I think he will give him his toughest test yet. On a side note, we cashed in on Gaethje +3000 for a 5th round stoppage.
