Cody Garbrandt makes his much anticipated return to the octagon on June 6th. Cody “No Love” has fought three times in the last two and a half years. He got his start in the UFC back in 2012 against Charles Kessinger, and he rallied off ten straight victories. I am a big fan of Cody Garbrandt, Much like Justin Gaethje, he has that relentless and often times reckless fighting style. Of his first ten wins, only two made it past the second round and only one went to decision. Garbrandt burst onto the scene after his title fight with Dominick Cruz. Cruz, one of the most decorated fighters in the history of the sport, boasted a 22-1 record at the time of their fight, and had successfully defended the Bantamweight belt six times. Garbrandt absolutely dismantled Dominick Cruz.
We had never seen Dominick Cruz be outmatched that way before. Garbrandt didn’t just beat him, he embarrassed him. He went in there with with style and taunted Cruz the entire fight. To this date it is one of the most impressive performances I have ever seen.
The Demise Of No Love
After winning the title Cody Garbrandt defended the belt against former teammate, T.J. Dillashaw. There was a lot of bad blood in the build up to this fight, and Cody ended up getting finished in the second round. Follow that up with a rematch with Dillashaw and the result was the same, but only this time it was a first round knockout. Another first round knockout, and Garbrandt is riding a three fight losing streak, all resulting in stoppages. That relentless kill or be killed style isn’t working anymore. Justin Gaethje had this same problem but he adapted. I expect to see a much more calculated and strategic Cody Garbrandt on June 6th.
